What would be the best way to fix a 1/2" rip that goes from the edge to one of the rear rivets? Superglue? Thread?

Don't care what it looks like, I just don't want it to get bigger.

not sure how much material you have to work with, but maybe tie the two pieces together with a lace, also made leather? Maybe take it to a tack shop or Last Genuine Leather Co. and see what they would recommend...

I'm going to try a heavy waxed thread that is meant for sewing leather. Hopefully it won't rip more.

I'd take it to the leather shop Brian mentioned before punching anymore holes in it.

use a glovers needle (i have one you can borrow) and sinew or fake sinew. do a bartack, maybe more than one. that will stop it. better than punching a hole too.
