Plan: give poor kids free bus rides on weekends.
Reality: poor kids ride the bus, get rowdy.
Result: no more free bus rides for poor kids.

sounds more like a "people fail" to me, but you're right, reality wins. _________________ ------------[] O |

WARNING! DO NOT READ THE COMMENTS!!!
it will just remind you that we live in a backward antebellum pit of closet racists who believe public transport is only there so that poor people can get around, and if they can't afford to get a car where do they REALLY need to be going anyway? probably just riding the bus to pick up some drugs or impregnate a thirteen year old |

You have to admit riding a bike is a much more efficient way to get to that thirteen year old's house. |

I mean, sure - without stops the whole thing could take about 15 minutes . . . |

True. I had my little baby-blue schwinn trek 10-speed all over hoosierville. When I fancied a pretty girl, do you think I rode bus to her house? I biked to her place to show off my wheels.
Alex, don't read these comments because they're bashing yellow bikes, downtown, and generally everything else: http://www.kentucky.com/181/story/794883.html |

Its good to warn Alex off those things. Given his delicate sensibilities. He might get the vapors. |

why do you have to tell me not to press the red button????
it's gonna be awesome next year when millions of people roll into town, and instead of a hip, lively, people filled downtown, they're confronted with a pit of shit. and a bunch of redneck retards that think they should get to drive their hummers over anyone that's less fortunate than they. and some fratboys hanging out at harveys
have fun
now my entire fucking day is ruined. thanks _________________ How about, "Can you NOT rip a giant hole in our downtown and erect a big goddamn penis full of crappy chain businesses?"

wtf?! did we learn NOTHING from the original Triangle Park design? and hello - can we say rape corridor? as a landscape architect myself, i'm not so sure about this, M2D . . . maybe go back to the drawing board?
that said, it seems like the best and most economical proposal yet . . . |

Bring on the ideas, and I hope the H-L keeps publishing them no matter how half-assed, or naively altruistic they might seem. It just keeps the focus on the fact that THERE'S A HUGE SLUDGE PIT IN OUR DOWNTOWN, and that folks are getting impatient over what's going to happen there.

The HL is fantastic. This centerpit has become one of the more lively/depressing conversations about downtown. I'm all for a forest or orchard or nursery or just more plant life downtown.
Logan...maybe all of these exuberant kids can learn to climb trees here?
Lou...i agree maybe M2D could develop this idea to avoid a Triangle Park...but it is so simple. Putting 'nature' back into the urban fabric is a consistent theme for Bluegrass image. Some comments on HL mention that it would become part of the "Winchester Pool" at Phoenix Park, where all of the Bums wash and prevent normal people from hanging out. |

I still think whatever is done with the pit should include the tunnel that runs under the sidewalk on the Vine side of the block:
Log flume?
Gondola rides?
Mud bog racin'? |

I'm all about putting nature back into the urban fabric - urban forestry, for the most part, can do nothing but positive things for a cityscape, especially for the moonscape they've created downtown. But when I mentioned Triangle Park I was referring to the monoculture . . . and then the fail of the monoculture . . . that they implemented in the very beginning. Though I stand by my ruling of it being a rape corridor (sorry - throwin' around landscape architecture colloquialisms). With the exception of the fact that this project would probably end up being grossly more expensive than they anticipated (given human health and safety factors) this seems like the most economically viable and sustainable option as of yet. AND I applaud M2D for at least thinking outside the damn box. |

but I'm with Logan on this one - a log flume is a great idea . . . and then CP could be turned into a lazy river! Yesss! |

what i think downtown really needs is a diverse, hip spot that brings a variety of people to the street level to mix and mingle, with art, music, food, & culture that would encourage artmaking and give the youth of lexington some agency and ownership over their town....
oh wait.... |
