**Help Bike Polo become an official event at the Annual Bluegrass State Games**

I am currently working with the organizers of the Bluegrass State Games to get Bike Polo included as a new, official event this year. Since the games are not too far away (July 2009), if we can get a large enough interest level in the next few weeks, that will go a long way in determining if we qualify for inclusion in the games this year.

I am proposing that, if included, Lexington will serve as host to the event, since we have a dedicated bike polo court that can facilitate two games at once. The event would be conducted as a one-day tournament; most likely a double-elimination bracket... but that would be determined once we figure out how many teams would participate. Teams would consist of three players, and participants could either register as a team, or as an individual who could then be partnered with a team.

I am only aware of players from Lexington and Louisville, but would love to reach out to other cities in the state that may be playing, or interested in playing. Northern Kentucky? Bowling Green? Paducah? This could be a great way of promoting this growing sport here in our own state.

If you are interested, please shoot me an email at:
brokebike@gmail.com
and please refer to Bluegrass State Games or bike polo in the subject line.
You can also PM me using the forums.

The number of responses and interest level that I can report back to the Games officials will be the most important factor in making this happen! Please send this to anyone you may know who lives in Ky and may be interested in this. While all support for this is encouraged, I am particularly interested in hearing from those who wish to participate in playing during the Games. -thanks

All of this is still very much up in the air at this point, but right now it is looking like we have a really good chance at making this happen this year. If it does happen, the date of the event would fall somewhere between July 10th and August 1st.

There is a potential loophole that states that participants from other states may take part under the following conditions:
- participants must be from a state that borders Kentucky
- that border state does not hold official State Games such as the Bluegrass State Games.

This could potentially allow us to invite teams from OH, MO, IN, VA, TN, WV, and IL. Although we may want to be selective just to keep the numbers manageable, and to keep it to a one-day event.

Another up-side to this, is that it could give us more motivation to complete our court improvements (boards and court markings), and may incite Parks and Recreation to get our lights working if they know that Coolavin will be hosting one of the Bluegrass State Games official events.

I will be sure to keep everyone posted as I hear more about this.

I'm holding out on spreading the word too much (at least to other cities) until I find out for sure if this is 100% happening... but definitely, I will be needing a lot of help if this goes through. So, thanks!

It's official.

We're in for this year! Now we just need to pick a date in July and then we can start figuring out which teams we can invite. Players from states bordering Ky can play as long as their own states do not have State Games. I'll start contacting folks in OH, IN, IL and VA. Not sure if any of the other states have polo.

Now we need to really start working on getting our court ready, because this will be about as official as it gets in terms of hosting our first real event at Coolavin.

Don't forget about Missouri. I think we should aim to get boards up some time between the swap meet and the Dayton tournament. We should discuss this seriously on Sunday.

you should post something on bikepolo.ca and hardcourtbikepolo.com looking for a date, then use the feed back so we get a good turn out.

yep. just put in an initial query on the League site, starting with finding out who might be interested.
