|
|
The theft occurred in late November but I just heard about this site and figured I would give in a shot. The bike was a 58cm Trek 1000 white/blue with brand new (less than 50 miles!) Mavic Aksium wheels. It was stolen from a front porch on Linden Walk. Will gladly pay $100 reward and will not press charges I just want the bike back! Thanks for any help.

I just found this posted on criagslist: "Trek 1000 54 cm road bike." I know it says 54 cm, but that may be a mistake. Better safe than sorry, anyway. |

Thanks for the heads up! Unfortunately its not mine. I should clarify that it is not the usps colors. The frame is predominately white with blue accents and it has profile design carbon areo bars and a cateye. Thanks again! |

|

I was driving down Versailles Rd. this past Saturday when low and behold I saw my bike and the bum that stole it! I pulled a U turn and the chase was on. He didn't know I was after him but he turned left down pine street from Versailles heading toward Manchester. Disney on ice just let out and the traffic headed out of town was heavy so I had to wait to turn to follow him. By the time I turned and parked at southern states he turned down into Irish town by the railroad tracks. He was gone before I could drive around the block to get to where he had gone. I drove around for hours trying to find the bastard.
With my interest re-ignited I went back to Alyseford where it had originally been stolen. Who do I see in the yard of the half-way house (629 Alyesford) across the street from the scene of the crime? You guessed it the Bum that was riding my bike. (By the way he is 55yo white male 5'-7or8" grey hair last scene wearing blue jeans, flannel shirt and a baseball cap. Looks haggard and drugged out. It was kind of funny to watch him ride it as his feet didn't even touch the pedals when they were at the bottom!) I don't approach because there are three of them, one of me and I don't see the bike. Oh yeah and their bums, probably have rabies, small hands and smell like cabage.
However, I did go to the wonderful LFUCG police station to file a report. I know who stole it, where they live and likely where the bike is. Yet the officer tells me there is nothing that they can do as I don't have the serial number. I inform him that the bike not only has several distinctive after market components but also has nicks in the paint that could also identify the bike. He still insisted it wasn't good enough!
Side Note: This house on Alyesford always has bikes for sale in the front yard. I am pretty damn sure that these bums steal bikes to get beer/coke/heroin/ect. money. I made mention of this and still not even a hit of assistance from the cops!
So do I go vigilante, take matters into my own hands and risk going to jail over a $600 bike or do I bend over and accept the fact that I am a tax paying law abiding citizen who is being effed?
DAMMIT!

yep. And it's always a good idea to hide something within your bike to prove that it's yours. My favorite idea came from Tall George: track down one of those hospital bracelets (the plastic ones you get when you're admitted), put your name on it and drop it down your seat tube, or stick it inside your handlebars.
I'm afraid now's the time when you get several of your buddies armed with bike locks, and go take that sucker back. Thieves don't deserve courtesy. _________________ ------------[] O |

some bike shops keep a record of your sale along with the serial number. you might want to check with them. worth a shot. |

I'm pretty sure I know which house you are speaking of and I will gladly approach them if I see the bike, as I have been harassed by them many times.

I work at Lexington Bicycle Center, and it dawned on us that this guy has brought your bicycle in to us six or seven times to get flats fixed. We knew it had to be stolen, but just started reading this thread Saturday. Today is my day off, and I just got a call from the shop saying that the bike is now locked up with a flat between the shop and Ryans Steak House (now out of business) Now would be a good time to go get it!

The shop is on Red Mile Road, closer to Versailles Road than Harrodsburg Rd, between the empty Ryans and Fayette Seed. _________________ All you NEED is a one speed......... |

Thanks to the guys at the Lexington Bicycle Center I have my baby back! It was tied up with a horse lead and a padlock. Bolt cutters solved that.
Thanks be to Robert Brandon for emailing and alerting me. I never thought I would see it again and the warm weather was starting to get depressing without two wheels.
The guy who was in possession of the bike came down to talk and swore up and down that he didn't know it was stolen and that he bought it from a guy. He left before the cops got there and they said the only thing they could charge him with was criminal mischief since he wasn't riding it nor did they see him steal it. What ever, I got my bike back.
Also, thanks to the moderator/s for operating this forum!
I am down to take over the house on Aylesford! Let me know when and I'll bring light sabers, baseball bats, and a maul. |

now that you have it back, buy yourself a heavy-duty lock, or keep that puppy off the porch!
I realize it's not always convenient to have a bike indoors, but porch bikes are an invitation for theft... especially around campus. _________________ ------------[] O |
