|
|
I've brought this possibility up a couple of times in the past few weeks, but now it is officially going to happen. We'll be setting up a temporary court and playing bike polo on Main Street during the 2nd Sunday event on October 12th. This is only two weeks away!
If you aren't familiar with what 2nd Sunday is, then you need to read the Lexrides forums more. Here's a link to some of the past discussions on what this is:

This is a great opportunity for us to get more exposure for bike polo in Lexington by playing in a venue that is not only different, but will be attended publicly on a much larger scale than what we're used to. The area we'll be playing at is the section of Main Street between the courthouse "shower fountain" and Phoenix Park. We can take the whole space from where the intersection starts (Main & Limestone) all the way back towards the Library bike racks. This should give us a pretty good area, about the same as what we're used to playing with the short games at Coolivan.
We should try to get as many folks out to attend this as possible. Not only do we want to make this a significant part of the 2nd Sunday event, but we also want people to know that bike polo is alive and strong in Lexington. We want to show people how much fun we have, and hopefully we can turn others onto polo as well.
This is also important because it will overlap with our usual Sunday game time. The hours of the event will be 2pm - 6pm, and we can play the whole 4 hours if we want. Also, if folks want to head over to Coolivan Park to continue playing after 6pm, that's fine too.
I'll keep you posted here as things continue to develop in the coming weeks. _________________ ------------[] O

Awesome work Brokebike.
If you still have the polo flyer I can blow some up and make some flyers to handout during the matches. |

Tedder checked with Parks & Rec about us using the bumper barriers that they have out at the Masterson Station rinks, and they said that it shouldn't be a problem... we'll see what we can work out with those. _________________ ------------[] O |

Here's where we'll be playing; with the boundaries of the court. Roughly 120' x 55', so just a bit longer and narrower than our short court area at Coolivan.

All polo peeps and interested parties:
Don't forget about polo tomorrow from 2pm - 6pm on Main Street!
Our temporary court will be located right beside Phoenix Park. If you're willing to help us set up the court beforehand, show up around 1pm and give us a hand.
We will probably need some extra hands to help tear everything down afterwards.
See you there! _________________ ------------[] O |

I hope everyone had as good a time as I did seeing bike polo played on friggin' Main Street!
I wanted to thank everyone who helped stay after to help us tear down quickly and load everything up.
Special thanks to Brian Ronk and Henry for lending their time and trailers in the effort to bring the padded roller hockey rink from Masterson Station. That was a tremendous help. Thanks also to Alex and Jakub for being there to lug the shit around and help set up.
Thanks to Tim Buckingham for subtly nudging us in the ass to be a part of this thing; thanks to Shane Tedder who made the call to Parks & Rec about the rink barriers; and thanks to Kenzie Gleason, who fell on the sword of Second Sunday and helped pave the way for us to secure our spot and do our own thing with the polo court set up. _________________ ------------[] O |
