A few of you may know a friend of mine named Audra, she works at Al's/Stella's and had her bike stolen Saturday night. It is a black Soho single speed: http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes/2008/urban/soho/sohos/

I work at Scheller's, where she bought the bike, and can say we sold around 3 Soho SS's in a 15" frame, so if you see ANY Soho Single Speeds around town, and it's a 15" frame, you got 1 in 3 odds it's hers.

If anyone sees it, call me at 859-771-2594, or Audra at 859-771-3958. She doesn't have the serial number immediately available, but I'll find it at work and post it here tomorrow.

THIEVES FUCKING SUCK.

was it locked to the rack? Any signs of forced theft, or damage?

Cut Cable lock, Ale8 crate and rack left behind. I believe the bike also had black full coverage fenders, the ones from Planet Bike, if you know the ones i'm talking about.

that sucks... makes it seem like it wasn't random at all if they left the rack behind.

Was it taken during working hours? If so, that's pretty fucking bold... especially with all the activity by the back door during any given night.

I'm pretty sure she was working at Al's Saturday night, when it was stolen.
Serial number is WTU351C0687C if you see it.

supposedly considering some circumstances, she had to leave it at al's for two nights in a row. then it got yanked. so people, moral of the story, don't leave your bike at al's for more than one night. the theif more than likely lives in the area, considering all the pedestrian traffic that goes by.

that blows! that's a sweet bike too and i'm sure that rack gets cased.

Any consolation though, police do find stolen bikes. i've had a bike and a car stolen on separate occasions, both found and returned a little bruised and scratched by the LPD.

Attention all nutmeggers and rastarollers!! Audra's bike has been successfully retrieved, save a little wear and tear and missing fenders, it it still in great shape. Thanks to the police, all you honkeys who showed up for the fiasco and those who kept an eye out . Good work!

Some lessons learned in this particular incident that everyone should keep in mind:

- Always, always file a police report as soon as your bike goes missing. Even if the bike is a piece of shit, or if you expect to one day come across your bike by chance and get it back... you never know when that police report could work to your advantage, so it helps to have one filed just in case.

-It is never a good idea to leave your bike locked in the same spot for an extended period of time.

-If possible, jot down that serial number and keep it handy. Not only did Audra have it, but so did several of her friends who were on the lookout.

-Cable locks, while fine for certain situations, are the most vulnerable of bike locks. Many of us use them for times when we're just locking up for a short time, or in a highly visible area... but a quick snip will make short work of a cable lock in the hands of a thief.

-It helps to have something very characteristic about your bike that would be hard to alter or remove. In Audra's case, her bike was easy to spot because we knew there were maybe only 3 others like it in town... but if you have say, blue Schwinn Collegiate or some other bike that is fairly common or non-descript, do something to it that wouldn't be easily overlooked.

There's also the ol' piece of paper in the handlebars trick in case there's any dispute about ownership.
