The first brick fell at 7:55 Tuesday morning. I passed it as it happened on my way to work. 4 hours later, Triple Crown was a heap.

It blows my mind that this "LEED" project comes from at least one existing building that went straight to the landfill.

From what I can gather, LEED is about half BS. Good in theory and on paper, but I have to question the full merits of it when put in practice, and especially in cases like this where it is used as a leveraging and marketing tool.

LEED ceritified is crap. its mostly using bike racks and a roof garden with a really efficient furnace. the silver gold and platinum ratings are much better and true to green building.

LEED certification isn't a reason, in itself, to build a building. I guess it's better to be LEED certified than not - but if we're debating the environmental merits of CentrePointe, all you have to do is go look at all the particulate matter going up into the air as each of these buildings gets razed.

Watching Gray and Wilkerson vs Webb and Ockerman on KET debating CenterePointee...logic and law vs lies and ego.

The phone calls they are taking are shockingly bad from a technical standpoint.

Taylor, nice op/ed in the recent ACE!

Half the actual content of the issue is dedicated to articles opposing the Webbs.

I heard that the local business owners' association (or whatever the official title is) has decided against giving support to the project. This is big news since the association consists of some big names in local business, not just preservationist and granola heads.

You may be thinking of the Fayette Alliance. They denounced Centerpointe a couple days ago. I don't know how much weight or influence these types of groups have on the issue when it really comes down to it... because after seeing this whole fiasco unfold with the city, I don't really think anything is surprising, or sacred anymore.

Besides, the Webbs are nothing if not stubborn and clueless. I doubt they'd even bat an eye over some well-to-do's wagging a finger at them.

Centrepointee has a flickr group and a flickr profile.
Apparently Mr Centrepointee likes to take pictures out a window in the building at the corner of Vine and S Lime. I'm sure Mr Centrepointee would love some supportive group members and comments about "The new exciting CenterPointe project for downtown Lexington Kentucky" as he has none of either at the moment.

open season on their Flickr site!
We should give them plenty of comments to have to delete. We could seriously give this guy a full-time job deleting nasty comments about Centrepoitee.

Let 'em fly, folks!

Forget about CentrePointe, Pyongyang has the Hotel of Doom.

You don't tourist to justify a hotel. A big ego is sufficient.

Article about student design alternatives to centereepointee in today's HL.

And people wonder why nobody takes architects seriously.

I agree. Aside from the candlelight vigil, this has to be the most pointless effort in the whole controversy that we've seen thus far.

If anything, it probably actually helps the pro CEntrEpoyntE side.

well, the problem is, this is the way architecture in major player cities are moving, and since this is touted as a way to bring lexington to the next generation, many architects see it as a canvas for the most modern ideas possible.

also, it really needs to be understood that those were concepts. the actual buildings would look nothing like that, those are ideas that encompass the architects personal understanding of the site, needs and context. the reason images like this are so important is not because they prescribe what is to be built, but they push the limits of the buildable idea. without ideas like these, progress cannot be made in a built environment.

although i think the first two concepts are a bit too removed from where they ought to be, i feel like the third is pretty solid, probably because the architects lived in town for a while before going to new orleans to help rebuild. the building is essentially a large block, which ties into traditional lexington forms, and is not nearly as vertical as a tower, preserving the other blights of the 5/3 and central bank building our only real eyesores.

remember, its a visualization of an idea, not of a building.
