With the advent of Facefuck, is this forum even relevant? I haven't check here in months, and when I did tonight, I noticed a lot of unanswered threads and general lack of interest.
Dedicated folks are doing their best here to keep the posts and banter alive, namely brokebike, metro_biking, elzie4999+1, ms. doflo, mr. toborek, mr. ilovetubes, and of course riders who have had their bike stolen. I'm sure I've missed some people and I'm sorry. Speak up!
What can or should we do in light of modern social media to reverse this trend? I'll check back in a few weeks to see the posted consensus.

I'm afraid I have to agree. It's very disappointing to check here nowadays, but back when it was actually being used for something other than a repository for people who don't know how to keep their bikes locked up properly, it was really a cool place to get in touch with the bike community.
I know it's a pain to keep it up and running and properly maintained, and I have no idea how much money it is costing to keep around... I know most of that is on you these days, Boyd, so if it is easier for you to scrap it I won't protest it.
Maybe ask around and get a feel from others, but I'm afraid you may need to either post it on Facebook, or show up at the polo courts if you want to get a good answer. _________________ ------------[] O |

Personally, I always believed this forum could serve greatly as a hub for all the various bike clubs around Lexington, and the region. (BGCC, KYMBA, Various sponsored road teams around town, Alleycat and other bike-related fundraising events, Polo, lost/stolen bikes)
All the existing clubs do already seem to have some form of web-communication, in various states of use, but I always thought having something like this could both help cross-pollinate participation between Lexington's clubs, and help newcomers with a one-stop page for information about all of Lexington's bicycle goings-on.
I think the forums have promise, but perhaps need an update and a "PR push". I also understand that takes a good chunk of time, which may or may not be worth it.
Or maybe i'm just a bleeding-heart liberal promoting "big-internet" instead of letting the free-market run it's course. |

I sort of agree with James that people just aren't aware of it and they are using the ever-present facebook since it's probably conveniently already up on their screens. Also, most bike events these days are done for charity or some kind of monetary profit, so facefuck is first choice since it reaches a lot of people who may not be involved in the bike community.
HOWEVER, there are always "guests users" showing up in the "Who is Online" section, so people are looking at the forum...just not participating. Who are you? Show yourselves! |

I came here to get more info on polo and the fact i have friends in Lex and my girlfriend is from Lex. Also, I came here to let people know about an AlleyCat I am doing in Owensboro. I would like to see more use for this and I would love to promote the site if you wanted some people from Owensboro involved. |
