The future of the new bike lane on Maxwell between Woodland and Kentucky Ave is uncertain. There will be a council work session today at 200 E. Main Street at 3 PM to discuss the future of this short stretch of new bike facility. There will be an opportunity for you to provide your opinion.

Just an update for those of you interested:

The Council voted 11-2 in favor of removing the bike lane and returning that section of the street to parking again.

The only two votes in defense of the bike lane came from Diane Lawless and Steve Kay.

Lexington loses half a block of bike lane, and Black Swan gets their two parking spaces back.

It sounds like a fair trade to me, I think it's incredibly impressive to see a bike lane stretching down Maxwell all the way from Limestone to Woodland and to lose that piece of bike lane to five (mostly) local businesses than so be it.

The bigger problem to solve is how to reduce the number of cars crashing into and around the building at that intersection to zero per year.
