I know the answer is "do it yourself" but shit I am way out of practice and patience to deal with it. I just came across two rolls of 120 film that I would like developed. Over the years in lexington I would use either the medical arts and photography or the film lab on upper and third. Both of which are way gone. Is Murphy's the best place to send it out from or is there somewhere else?

All the medium format and larger labs in town are gone as far as I know.
I'd go with Murphy's, unless there's a lab you've done mail-away processing with directly before.

Is there anywhere in town that does large format? (nevermind, saw that you said medium and larger) I have had to mail out stuff to Greenup up in Covington because that is all my professor knew of.

I have had the same problem. Film Lab is gone, but Dodd Camera in Cleveland will process a 120 print film roll for 5.99 and put it on a CD for 2.50. Each image is 17 mb. Return shipping is $8. It's a great deal if you have a few rolls.

What's Dodd's turnaround time like for mailing E6?

I haven't had to do any 120 since Film Lab closed, but it'd be good to have a decent supplier if it comes up again.

Their web site says the run 35mm, 120 and APS but not 4x5. Someone still shoots APS?

how could someone get a nice camera to LEARN on? you know something cheap but still decent to play around with until you figure it all out?

ive got a bday coming up and i was going to ask for a camera but from what i can tell everything is so expensive.

i dont know anything about photography other than i love my polaroid camera but you cant do much with it and while things look bad ass to me they dont turn out so bad ass in the pic.

what is a holga? i keep hearing all this stuff on flickr about it but is it a girly camera or something?

and all these film options?

i know i sound like an idiot to you pro's but i just wanna learn (sad face).

a Holga is Chinese-made plastic camera that falls into the "toy camera" category; meaning the cameras are usually made from cheap materials, have little to no quality control, and are prone to bad lenses, light leaks and other irregularities that give the photographs a unique look long desired in fine art photography, which is now so co-opted and widespread (thanks to the Lomography craze - Google it), you can pay upwards of $40 for them in Urban Outfitters catalogs.

They're fun to play with, and you can rig them to shoot 120 or 35mm, but you're still going to need to find a place to process your film.

Logan can probably show you how to fit a Holga lens onto whatever digital camera you have to get some similar cool effects...

Holgas are totally girly.
That's why I have two of them.
(they're cheap medium format cameras with one shutter speed and one aperture that you can bust parts out of the inside to take awesome square pictures with fuzzy edges)

If you don't find something you like at BigPappa's closeout sale, get a point and shoot digital camera for around $200. As long as it shows you the the f stop (size of the hole that lets light in) and the shutter speed (how long the hole is open) you can compare that to what the pics look like and figure out what's what.

Edit (after reading brokebike's response):
Dude, I cut up one of my holgas and mounted the lens on a canon DSLR. The only problem is that it'll only focus between about 1 foot and 6 feet. But it totally works.

You can cop the general look by making a square vingette out of matte board and taping it over the front of any other lens.
