Biking in the city is cool, but nothing like biking in the woods.
Our national parks are considering a proposal to open backcountry trails to mountain biking. Currently, we can bike at Mammoth Cave, but not at Cumberland Gap, our two closest parks.
If the Ridge Trail at the Gap was opened to biking, it would be totally awesome. The trail is doubletrack, ridge top, mostly dry, fast with lots of babyheads, and you can drive up the mountain to the Pinnacle trailhead. Consider then hauling ass down the mountain, which is heavily switch-backed, or take the Ridge Trail some 18 miles to yet another massive downhill. The park would change overnight. |
