| is there a louisville alleycat site or anything like lexrides? my brother lives there and it would be cool to ride in and stay with him for a race. for a weekend. |

Hey Boyd, you mind giving a few of us here some idea as to what to expect from a "Bike Prom"? Specifically, Lexington's first EVER bike prom?
...just in case some folks (as Kyle alluded to) may have indifference, or not-so-fond memories connected to the word "prom".

I updated the top post with more info. Now I understand how some might have sore memories of high school proms and similar fussy dances (I never attended my prom...gay!) but this event is more of a promenade or pageant of Lex's bike style. No previous prom experience necessary. You can even think of this as an anti-prom, since the checkpoints will be humorous activities/challenges related to kitschy prom tradition.
You can dress up fancy, freaky, or whatever, but the goal is to bike to various checkpoints, pimp your look, participate in themed events, and end up at Molly Brooke's for a party with a DJ and a special drink/punch bowl, a.k.a. "The Bike Prom Bomb," and cheap beer. We'll have prizes and swag. I'll post here when we get prices and drinks.
Most checkpoints will be hosted by the sponsors so each destination will have its own special theme. This is not a race, but we will have a few undisclosed bike-specific challenges.
We were thinking of doing a bike valet for the party, but we hit a snag with the location to park the bikes. While we have most checkpoints covered, if anyone wants to help with a handful of remaining checkpoints, just PM me.

and ps... I wasn't dissing anyone planning to hit L-ville for the Mondo...sounds like a great race. Since the LASC is promoting the prom to its base, we're expecting a lot of new riders. |

I don't think Louisville has anything quite like Lexrides, but there is a myspace page for the upcoming alleycat: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=201564208. It's called the Mondo Crazy Alleycat 2.0 and I can assure you that it will be amazing. There is no better city to ride in than Louisville (except Lexington of course), and last year's alleycat was a lot of fun. So, not to take any steam out of the bike prom, especially since it is a fundraiser, but if you're not going to prom and don't have anything else planned, you should definitely come to Louisville.

We're geared up and ready to roll with the 2008 Bike Prom.
Prepared to be glittered, quizzed, corsaged, and photographed with an outerspace alien. $2 beers and a Cosmic Bike Prom Bomb will offered at the afterparty at Molly Brook's Irish Bar.
Looks like the weather will be good after a cold front sweeps away the remnants of Gustav, leaving a pleasant, cool evening to dance your bike around town. Expect a vibrant and busy downtown as the first UK home football game begins at 6pm and the Roots and Heritage Street Festival will be in full swing.
Where will you visit? That's the mystery of the dance, but this map shows your area of interest.
