Hey, Google has a sweet new application that I've been playing around on and I found a biker near Woodland with spoke cards.

Just do a Google Street View on 586 E High Street.

Who dat be?

I have no idea... I can't tell if it's a girl or guy, actually.

We should have a contest to try to find the weirdest Lexington street view scenes!

Here's a link to some bizarre and interesting Google Street View captures submitted from around the world:

Here's a good one:

Can't make out the bike, but no wait....is that Abernathy? Or is it Almondo my manicurist?

Cool application indeed. I've been surfing my old haunts and really hit a nostalgic moment. I wish they indicated when the image was shot, but I'd imagine that'd create endless lawsuits if you could identify people at exact locations and times.

After looking at the brokebike's links I wonder if they use a blur algorithm to fuss things up.

Its easy to miss. They just strap the big black box to whatever vehicle the contractor has.

elzie5000, sarcasm? That's hard not to miss, but then again it could be any student on campus moving some class project.

I think the camera assembly is much smaller though - softball sized. I do see the GPS receiver on the back. Apparently they use a volkswagon beetle as the capture vehicle because of its small footprint.

Here's a description of the camera, "One of the many secrets behind Immersive Media technology is a patented 11 lens camera system that simultaneously takes photos in 11 directions based on a dodecahedron geometry. They can capture 30 frames a second of high resolution photography. That's right - we're talking high resolution video in digital 360. You can stop, start, back up, single-frame, etc. And they even showed technology where you can add 3D objects into the video scene (augmented reality). This technology has been used for things like planning state visits of dignitaries for security planning."

No sarcasm. It looks like a nasty van with a box and bucket on top. Most people wouldn't assume they were being street-viewed if it went past them. Even fewer if they've made it much smaller now.

if you do a search for Coolavin, you see a Parks & Rec grounds crew getting ready to do some mowing, and there's a dude in the truck staring down the Google camera vehicle:
