Did Lovan say anything about how much of the sidewalk places like Rosebud are allowed to block off with tables?

No. I'm not sure what division of the city sets those rules, but Rosebud's staff sure gets on your ass for the smallest of infractions. Which is funny, because for them to be so strict about that makes me think someone has come down hard on them in the past for it. If you want to drink outside there, you get the full assault: wristbands, no standing with drink, keep your chairs tucked in neatly behind the rope line, etc.

So, for them to be so strict about those kinds of things, yet to be so supportive of smokers' rights and seemingly defiant of the smoking ban issue on their website, makes it seem a bit schizo to me.

fuck rosebuds. no one should ever go there again. the employees are lieing scum bags.

me and tiffany got arrested last night by this stupid power trippin cop.

the bouncers said we were causin trouble which was a load of shit. all i know is a cop walked up behind me while i was waiting for everyone else to unlock and told me i had to leave.

i said it was a public side walk and next thing i know, i'm handcuffed and thrown on the trunk of a cruiser.

next thing i see as i turn around is tiffany in handcuffs. there was no reason for that as well.

i'm not going to say anything more for now, my wrists are hurting from the cuffs as i type.

FUCK ROSEBUDS

and

FUCK THE POLICE!!!

that's messed up.

seems like anger, frustration and discontent are at high levels right now in regards to all things going on downtown... no thanks to greed, a weak city gov't, and a shitty outlook for things to come. Last thing anyone needs is for the cops to start hassling folks for whatever minor reason.

I'm not saying this may have played a part in your situation, because I don't know all of the facts surrounding it, but I'm just saying that we'll probably all be dealing with all kinds of bullshit downtown in the immediate future...

What about locking a bunch of POS bikes to the posts on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights?

I mean it would suck to waste the space but if they are not going to let folks use it anyway, then why not make a point? We could lock 8 frames up (four on each side).

8 bikes and at least that many U locks while we drink for a few hours at the bourbon bar on Cheapside would be damn appropriate.

time to throw the full weight of the bike community behind a boycott. there are not many bars downtown but I don't think they deserve our business.

Not to sound like a plug or anything but my buddy of long standing is really trying to make a go of the old hidaway, now the green lantern. He has made a lot of improvements while doing his best to not run off the original crowd, which is cool. They are working on expanding into the neighboring room, beer is damn cheap, jukebox is good and the owner and staff are good folks.
Again it sounds like a plug but we know the paucity of spots with some character these days and the early stages are critical for any place to survive.
Good open mic, too.

I've always liked that place... even when it was the Hideaway (with the exception of a certain bartender who used to work there, who was a total bastard).

When we were bitching about the lack of good bars the night this incident happened at Rosebud, the Green Lantern was first on our list of places to start frequenting more.

Can you put in a good word for the bike community for us? If they're good to us, we'll definitely be good to them! Showing up strong with a bunch of thirsty bikers after an alleycat or casual night ride would be good business... just ask Al's, Lynagh's, Johnny from Busters (sniff!), etc.

I mentioned it in passing a while back and he seemed really excited about the idea. He wants to get new folks in but without packing the place up with college kids. I think it's a good fit and the bartenders and owners are all friendly and funny as hell. Shit, even some of the patrons are nice. He refused to paint over the murals of dog people doing various sordid activities purely on the grounds that rumor has it the the fellow that painted said murals is on death row for a double murder. Plus, take it as a sign or just a pleasant coincidence there is a giant 40 year old pinball type of game called "alleycat"

The Chase is the "new" bar off Broadway and W. Short welcomes bicyclists. Chris, the Manager, has just ordered a bicycle rack which at least holds 10 bikes and is going to install it on the Broadway side soon. He also says to point to your bike and you get a cold 22oz draught PBR for $3 (typically $3.50) only for bicyclists for the next few weeks. If he sees a good turnout, he'll make it a permanent price.

The "new" Busters will be across the street too! Let's see who's going to have the better bike rack!
