Be careful out there... assholes are everywhere.

Sara was struck from behind by a hit-and-run drunk driver early Saturday morning (10/27) while we were returning home from Buster's. We were riding up Clay Avenue along Woodland - she was about 10-15 ft. behind me and all I heard was the sound... a sound I hope I never hear again. The car sped off and we didn't catch the plates or the make and model. I don't think the driver even had his/her headlights on, as we both cannot recall seeing or hearing a car coming up from behind. We both had our front and rear lights on, and the most fortunate thing is that Sara was wearing her helmet (she took quite an impact on it). She's ok considering it could've been much worse. A few scrapes and bruises, a sprained ankle, and her rear wheel is toast.
I think we all assume a certain amount of risk as much as we are out there riding in the streets at all times during the day... but this just goes to show that even when you do everything you possibly can to be safe, and be seen (lights, helmets, reflective clothing, etc.) there are still those random elements out there that you simply can't expect. Still, this incident could've been much worse than it was, and we're just thankful that it wasn't.
Stay safe. |

The lexrides community is glad to hear that Sara escaped with relatively minor injuries. Thankfully helmets are in style! _________________ "The path of least resistance is what makes the river crooked!” - Utah Phillips |
