has anyone had a problem with a really squeaky brooks saddle? Do I need to tighten that bolt? _________________ Albert Einstein trembled when he found out time was water. Seeping through the rafters to put out this burning world. |

Only if the saddle is low in tension, which would cause it to sag. If you tighten an already-tight saddle, fibers will break and you will shorten its life.
Squeaks and creaks come from metal to metal movement and flexing without lubrication. Turn the bike upside down, and drip oil or Boeshield into the junctions between the rails and the cantle (rear piece), and where the rails enter the yoke in the front. Get the parts of the rails that are clamped in the seatpost, too. |

don't tighten the bolt on the nose of your Brooks... that's not the solution (or the problem).
I second LarryG's advice... grease those rails good and I bet the creaks go away... |

muMutha'ucka's still squeaking. I put grease on all the parts on the top of the seat post as well as the rails of the saddle. _________________ Albert Einstein trembled when he found out time was water. Seeping through the rafters to put out this burning world. |

Grease won't migrate into the offending interfaces. Use oil. |
