It is interesting to me to see the process of compromise between the tendency for BCC-type activities on the one side and the "we have no rules, ride like pirates, yar! beer!" set on the other. Each of which can be exclusionary in its own way, especially to more casual cyclists.

The BikeLex race night in the Cox St lot last year is a good example. We showed up en masse and had a great time, in the process scaring the organizers into not having a similar event this year it seems. Which is too bad, because it was a blast.

I'm hoping there's eventually some kind of dance-off between the groups to settle our differences once and for all.

Alas, as I consider myself a member of both camps, I could not participate in such a dance-off, thus depriving all of the sight of my free-style '80's gyrations.

You'll have the most important part in the dance war.

Peacemaker.

No, I totally understand about why you all called it a fun race, just thought some folks here might get a kick out of it.

I have a blast at alleycats, so dont worry, the fun is there. Wasnt sure if anyone else reads bikesnob and was just making fun with that.

brokebike, im with you. I race, but im not very serious about it, and really get bummed out when im talking to other cyclists who are only keen on winning. Riding a bike is about a lot more than your maximum wattage and quad circumference. Its a lot more fun that that too.

Is anything needed for the Oaks alleycat like a messenger bag or something?

will there be flyers for the race for sale before the start? I'm not seeing as many floating around before the race as I used.

No you don't have to carry anything on this race.

Alex designed a great poster and put some up around town. I have been hard pressed for time so I have not been able to get a bunch more up.
If anyone wants to hang some posters, hit me up.

They will be for sale at the race for $10. A portion of the poster sale will go to Shifting Gears and the rest will go to press 817 for the beautiful design.

Someday a real rain will come and wash all this scum off the streets.
I go all over.

Thanks to everyone for coming out and braving the elements. I think it is an amazing showing of our group when we can have 37 people race in just nasty ass may showers, especially when a good portion of the group had not raced before.

Thanks to Alex for creating a beautiful poster. I will have them for sale Sunday at the Velo Swap. Thanks to all the check point workers who stood in the rain but still managed to have fun. Thanks to JKizzle for the help at the starting line, it is not glamorous holding and umbrella for someone, but he did it with style.

In all we were able to donate $70 to shifting gears! Come by the shifting gears table at the Velo Swap and buy some parts or a poster.

This group of folks continues to amaze me! I'm glad you decided to go ahead with the race, despite the shitty weather... and I think that fact alone helped make this one a race that everyone will remember.

We had a blast working the Coolavin checkpoint and giving people a taste of the bike polo fundamentals!

it was also great finally putting a face to the mysterious joey-kizzle! Nice to meet you!
