You were riding down Ashland Ave about a half hour ago. On an older, pink road bike...brakes and deraileur removed, but still with the stock freewheel out back.

I know fixies look cool, but you're gonna die if you keep riding in traffic like that.

I totally checked for a coaster brake. He didn't have one.

Speaking of bikes with windows, I saw a guy riding a fully enclosed recumbent on my way home this afternoon. Full plastic bubble all the way around, with just his head sticking out the top.

I can't decide who was cooler between him and the brakeless kid.

Question: do all recumbents come with the little rear view mirror to attach to your helmet?

Waterproof bags, I'm sure they're cheaper than a aerodynamic shell for a recumbent? If thats not enough storage you could go with a b.o.b. trailer and waterproof bag. I wouldn't like not being able to jump off if I needed to. But to each his/her own.

Near Richmond Rd, in the Idle Hour neighborhood. Older guy with a beard. He clearly needed a bob trailer with its own shell.

I'm glad he was enjoying himself, but it looked really awkward riding that way slowly on side streets.

It'd freak me out to be trapped like that. Plus there's no way to high five people or smack buses for cutting you off.

Somebody get that guy some slightly tight jeans, some Eastern European military surplus jacket and a nice snug and vaguely ironic t-shirt from the Goodwill before he makes a fool of himself.

yeah, you have to be free to high-five people while riding. People are always coming up to me wanting to give me props for riding a bike in Lexington.

Though, it could be worse... they could be yelling stuff like:

"bluh bluh bluh BIIIIKE! bluh bluh bluh..."

or

"Go Lance!"

or

"Get on the sidewalk, asshole!"

but nah... high-fives all around for me!
