hey everyone. i have a confession to make: i'm not a bike polo guy, i play rollerhockey and have craftily sneaked into your forums. bwahaha.
kidding.
parks and rec has decided to demolish our rollerhockey rink in masterson station park. why? well, someday, they're thinking about putting in a pavilion. no one contacted us. we contacted the man in charge (coolidge...er...something) and he said it was too late and that we should have contacted him a year ago when the decision was being made. He gave us all surveys to fill out that i'm sure were filed into his T drive as soon as they were received.
anyway, our goalie, ryan fleming, met some of you bike folk and someone told us we could use a court for our pick up games when you are not using them.
we usually play wed nites but are obviously more than willing to change.
so...can we?
do you use both courts on wed?
what days are good for us to stay out of your way?
thanks,
chris |

We play our pickup on Sundays and Wednesdays, and we use the second court only when the number of players allow, which lately, hasn't been frequent. The second court has also been used a lot lately by some soccer guys, I'm not sure the regular nights they come out.
Wow, all these different uses for those courts seems like we could garner some interest in resurfacing.
Is there ANY way we can get and use the walls to that roller hockey rink onto our courts? Are they bolted to the surface, or planted beneath? |

I don't think any of the polo players would have a problem with this, but there's a couple of things we'd need to address...
First, have you guys tried out the surface at the Coolavin Courts yet? I don't know how picky you guys are about your playing surface, but what we have over there is FAR from an ideal surface for skates. I'd be willing to bet it will be too rough and uneven for play. Personally, I wouldn't want to skate it, but that's not to say it can't be done. There are wide cracks that have been sealed over with sticky rubber asphalt patch. Some places are as wide as 3". With bike tires, it's an entirely different matter because we can just roll over the nasty stuff.
Also, would you be bringing your own goals to play with? The soccer guys have beat the hell out of ours, and at this point we're not too keen on sharing them because of what has been done to them.
I've had numerous talks with Rudy Cruse from Parks & Rec, and because Bike Polo has been the group that has "re-established" the Coolavin courts, and since we've sunk most of the time, money and effort into creating what is out there, we would only ask that any other sports groups wanting to share the courts respect and abide by our Sundays and Wednesdays playing schedule. Like what James posted above, we don't always use both courts during game nights, but if we needed to, we want to have that trump card to play if need be... and without any tension from any other groups. Rudy is on our side with this, and will back up our wishes. _________________ ------------[] O |
