This is actually a pretty cool new program, and it utilizes technology that is only going to become more prominent as more people trend towards smart phones and phone-scanning applications (cue the Luddite comments).
Kryptonite has partnered with BikeRevolution.org to create a new bike registration / theft recovery program that employs a registration database, Pulse ID tags and phone ID scanning apps. Check it out here:

more details on the ID tags:

Basically, you can use this site to register your bikes and even your locks and keys. You can report stolen bikes and search theft hotspots in your area for free by creating a free account. You can take it a step further by purchasing ID tags for your bike (each bike can get three tags), and if your bike has been stolen and recovered, or spotted by someone who is familiar with the program, the ID tag can be scanned with a phone, submitted, then the information is relayed back instantly as to the status of the bike, if it has been reported stolen. This would be useful for bike shops and bike recycling programs as well to check for stolen property.
The other cool component of this program is that it uses social networking sites to alert followers to stolen bikes in the area, adding more eyes on the lookout in a specific area.
All of this stuff is still relatively new, and may take a while to catch on, but it seems like a pretty solid program that could be really beneficial for victims of bike theft. _________________ ------------[] O |

Interesting idea. My first question was that couldn't the sticker just be removed? I see this one addressed in the FAQ:
Quote: | Are the tags removable or can they be easily destroyed?
The tags are built to withstand attacks but can be damaged with effort. However, the tags are made with the strongest adhesive available on the market. If a thief tries to remove a tag it could damage the bike and will leave evidence that the bike was tagged. Additionally, the tags themselves are made to “destruct”, which means they come off in tiny pieces, rather than in one large peel. It would take a thief considerable time and effort to destroy 2-3 tags. Tags that have been tampered with can still be read. |
My next question, given that the stickers are supposed to be difficult to remove, is transferability of the listing. I can't find any information on that one. |

Surely they would be able to get the registration info transferred if the bike switched owners.
The program is so new, they stickers won't even be available in local retail shops until later this year. I do find it odd that they cannot be purchased online as well. _________________ ------------[] O |
