Folks planning the community bike shop have talked some about ways to help with the stolen bike problem. It has been discussed that we expect to be offered to purchase stolen bikes and such. Although it would be easy to give someone $20 for a bike we know is stolen and then return it to the owner to be repaid it would actually make the stealing problem worse if folks think they have a selling outlet.
One way the bike shop can help is for people's bike that have been stolen to:
Prior to your bike being stolen:
A: Take a photo of your Bike
B: Record the serial number on your Bike
Once Stolen
C: Report it stolen to the police, campus police, and bike shop where purchased.
D: Post on Lexrides
E: Bring printed photo (A) and serial number (B) to the community bike shop. We can make a cork board to post all stolen bikes and we can see if it makes its way into the shop.
This will just be another tool to help folks recover their bikes.
One last thing, make sure you lock your bike up correctly with a bike lock that is safe and secure. |
