You might have noticed the bike lanes that are appearing down town. Just a few short years ago we were protesting the state not allowing the city to put bike lanes on Vine St. while the city was placing them on Main St. Well now we got'em.

However, In some places these will be floating bike lanes so you have to be really careful about cars, pedestrians, etc. This is a new concept and unless proper signage is places, it could also be a bike death trap.

Regardless, here are a few exciting photos that Kenzie Gleanson posted to show how far we have come.

you mean, "death traps" like that SUV in the photo that is trying to turn onto Beck Alley from the center lane? Perfect example. There could possibly be a cyclist approaching that intersection, but he wouldn't see them because he's trying to beat the traffic coming up in the lane that he should be in ...

And, in true Lexington style, that bike lane ends so that the cars can turn onto Rose unfettered by pesky bicycles.

There has been lots of conversations and action to change this and make it safer but you know how fast engineers can work.

I've used these several times since they've put them in, and while it's nice to have that lane on the long straight stretch, it sure is wonky where the lane starts (just past the intersection of Limestone) and becomes vague right after Quality Street. To me, those seem like important areas to enhance the safety of the lane - but instead, the lack of visuals alerting vehicles to watch for bikes in the lane makes it seem more dangerous.
