This one hadn't even made it onto the forum yet, but thought I would share anyway.
I had a guy come into the shop (Pedal Power) today asking for a kickstand and lock for his Giant Seek 1. I showed him some options and he was taken aback at the prices of both accessories, kind of unusual for someone with a $600 bike. It was also kind of unusual for a guy that short to be on an extra large frame. Anyway, he decided that he could at least afford a water bottle cage so I wheeled it into the back to install it and asked Alan quietly to look up the serial # as I did so. Alan did so while I finished the cage install and offered to show the guy some lights. Alan called the customer that the serial # was committed to in the system (who thankfully answered!) and confirmed that the bike had been stolen out of his backyard 2-3 days ago. He only lived a block or so away and had made it down to be present as I told the guy that it was stolen and I couldn't let him leave with it. Talking to the guy while showing him accessories he claimed to have bought it from his cousin for $50, which who knows. The funny moment came as the owner ran up behind the dude and gave him a big hug for returning his bike. |

I hope you then immediately sold the original owner a u-lock and gave him a smack on the forehead for leaving his bike in his back yard! _________________ ------------[] O |
