I am looking to buy a men's and women's bike for easy riding around the city. I found a post on Craigslist for two bikes and the seller is asking $145 for each bike. The men's bike is a Shimano Roadmaster and needs new tires, but the women's bike seems like its been tuned up. It is a pink Schwinn Caliente. The seller is sure that they are at least 15 years old, but they could be older. Are these good bikes/the right price? |

Could you post a link to the ads? The Schwinn Kaliente may be a worthy buy at $145, if it is in absolute top notch condition. As for the other, you should probably steer clear of anything that carries the name Roadmaster. You could probably buy a brand new roadmaster bike right now for $100, so $145 for any used roadmaster model is exorbitant. Even for $100 new, the bike would not be worth your money though, these bikes are not built to last.
In short, check out the Kaliente, make sure you ride it, and remember to try haggling. If it's in perfect condition and it's the right bike for you (it fits and rides comfortable), then it will be a great deal for $145. Skip the roadmaster. _________________ "AK'll light up your chest like ET."

I'd skip them both. Even the Schwinn is too high. Especially skip them if the seller used the word "vintage" in the description.
If that is your price range, as much as I hate to say it, you'd probably be better off checking out what Wal-Mart or Target, or even Dick's has to offer. A quick glance on the Wally World website has all kinds of Schwinns and Huffys (road bikes and comfort cruisers alike), all for less than $225, some even less than $100. _________________ ------------[] O |
