bike!bike! is a nonprofit commnity bicycle project conference where various bike co-ops/collectives/nerds come together to host free workshops, volunteer, and hang out with other bike enthusiasts while learning and sharing skills and creating diy bike projects. and, quite frankly, it's pretty much the jam.
toronto is the host of this year's main gathering, but louisville is hosting the southeast regional off-shoot this year!
here are the participating bike shops/groups so far, but all bike nerds are encouraged to attend and host workshops, not just organized groups.
the current list of workshops:
- bike culture and the lack of safe spaces therein: WTF?!
- how to work with your local bureaucracy
- if it's broken, repurpose it!
- diy cargo bike build
- bike tube boox!
- evasive maneuvers mister sulu!" some suggested workshops they'd love to see:
- welding
- basic bicycle maintenance (101,102)
- bike culture, safety, action & advocacy
- yoga for bikers
- herbs/nutrition relevant to biker's needs
- starting/maintaing collective bike spaces
- types of spaces (nonprofit, for profit, other?)
- diy signage and lanes
- and obviously any other ideas you'd like to contribute/see happen! so, would anyone be interested in going to this or presenting a workshop? it's going to be a great opportunity to meet other bike nerds, and it's not every year that it's this close by! _________________ Time moves very slowly when submerged in the jaws of a hippo. -- Hippo Survivor, Animal Planet

Hell yeah! Bike Bike!
I think some folks could come up with some really good workshops. I mean we could just talk about the success we have had with working with the city and the polo courts.
Lets do this! |

I would love to help prepare a presentation on the evolution of either our bike scene, or our bike polo courts / community... only sad thing is, I will be in Austin during this.
If anyone is interested in presenting, or going together as a group representing Lexington, I will be happy to help in any way I can despite the fact that I cannot attend. _________________ ------------[] O |

yay! i think talking about our polo relationship with the city is a great idea. after talking to other out-of-town polo-ers, it does seem like lexington is one of the few places that has a sanctioned space from the city to play.
my roommate is one of the people organizing bike!bike! this year, so let me know if y'all have any questions about lodging or anything.
[EDIT]
a guy from charleston is now giving a workshop entitled "how to work with your local bureaucracy." maybe we could see if he would want to combine efforts with us? _________________ Time moves very slowly when submerged in the jaws of a hippo. -- Hippo Survivor, Animal Planet |
