Hey guys, I need your all's help with a study I am doing for one of my classes. I am putting together a survey in order to be able to set up an accurate analysis of what influences our frequency of commuting by bike. For now, I just need simple motivators or limiters that influence your commuting. Thanks! |

Just a few factors that come to mind:
motivators:
exercise, not being enclosed in a car, riding past traffic jams, interacting with people, friends who also commute, biking downtown for lunch, being in touch with the seasons, street lights, bike paths, indoor parking, showers, lockers, a bike with lights and fenders, good clothing
limiters:
hard rain, snow, ice, school bus drivers |

motivators:
it's fun to ride a bike
can get places quicker by bike
health / stress release
fresh air
social aspect (you can often find other friends biking as well)
free parking
limitations:
rain / crappy weather
hauling things / load capacity
whether or not my wife will ride
high # of potentially drunk drivers out (game days, student party nights, etc) _________________ ------------[] O |

For me its all about distance, temperature and cargo.
I live very close to where I work, so just about the only times I don't ride are: when I have a client meeting outside new circle, when its below 15 degrees (or so) or when I know I'll have to move heavy equipment during the day. |

Hope this helps!
Motivators:
- Time -- I can sometimes bike right up to my office (I work at UK) and park just outside in less time than it takes to find a parking spot and then walk to my building.
- It keeps me in better shape.
- It's cheaper -- I don't have to pay for a UK parking permit or spend as much on gas.
- It's better for the environment.
- It's just more fun!
Limiters:
- I won't bike when it's really cold, or pouring rain.
- I don't like to bike late at night when visibility might be an issue.

I like these motivators. It's just fun to haul ass, especially through campus.
For limiters, the only thing that prevents me from riding a bike to work is heavy rain and if I have to wear something fancy like a suit. |

Bike commuting is political and spiritual for me.
American's dependance on foreign oil weakens us politically and economically.
I don't want to foul the creators work.
