Hey folks, some great people have organize free bike valet parking at the Woodland Art Fair Aug 15-16. The bikes will be held in the hand ball cage and protected! If you go to the fair make sure to use this great service. Additionally if you have an hour or two to donate by "parking bikes" please contact Larry Porter at arry.porter@kctcs.edu
This is a great first step to creating another cultural shift amongst the community. I would suspect that with the success of this event we will start to see bike valet parking at Thursday Night Live, parks and rec events, restarunts and bars (al's and stellas) converting parking spaces into bike spaces etc. |

What if I want to buy some big giant piece of art I can't take home on my bike? Is there some sort of helpful plan in case that happens? |

Why yes there is! Glad you asked Logan. A major concern from the organizers and the artists is that bikers would not purchase art if they could not carry it home. Obviously they have not seen what we can carry on our bikes. So they created a volunteer program that someone will watch your art while you bike home and then drive back to a designated spot on High street for art pick up. The volunteer will then bring the art to your car. |

If you are interested in volunteering for a 2 hour shift at the valet parking station, email self.propelled@gmail.com and I will send you the google.doc we are using to create the volunteer schedule.
Thanks!

BCTC faculty offer bike check service at AFB Art Fair @ Woodland Park
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 6, 2009) -- Faculty members from Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC) have joined with the Mayor's Bike Task Force, the Bluegrass Cycling Club, and Lexrides to offer a complementary bike check service at the annual AFB Art Fair @ Woodland Park. The AFB Art Fair @ Woodland Park is being held 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15 and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16 at Woodland Park, 601 East High Street in Lexington and is presented by the Lexington Art League and the LFUCG Division of Parks and Recreation.
This is the first year a bike check is being offered at the AFB Art Fair @ Woodland Park. The bikes will be secured in racks at the Woodland Park racquetball court, a fenced-in area that will be attended by volunteers.
“It is a respectful way to honor bicyclists who are practicing an act of sustainable transportation and reducing the greenhouse gas emissions as well as traffic and parking congestion that would otherwise be associated with travel to the AFB Art Fair by car,” said Larry Porter, a BCTC biology instructional specialist. Porter coordinated the bike check after being inspired by a similar arrangement at an art fair in Eugene, Ore.
Bicyclists who purchase art at the fair can make arrangements with Lexington Art League (LAL) volunteers at the LAL Information Pavilion to hold onto the purchase until they return with a vehicle.
For more information, contact Porter at larry.porter@kctcs.edu. |

We still have a few spots where we could use some volunteer help. Our needs are mostly on Saturday the 15th, with the greatest need between 4-6pm (we need 2 or 3 more volunteers for this time slot).
We also need 1 or 2 people from 10-12pm and from 2-4pm on Saturday.
If you can help out please email or PM me by the end of the day. Thanks so much.

There's more! If you stop by the Cricket Press booth this weekend (we'll be located on the Woodland Christian Church side of the Fair) and show us your bike valet ticket stub, you can receive a free mini art print.
Good while they last! _________________ ------------[] O |
