Did you notice that ALL of the most popular cars to turn in are American, and 7 out of 10 of the most popular to trade in for are Asian? I have a feeling that this is going to upset some folks in Detroit. It is also, I think indicative, of what got GM and Ford into the mess they are in now, not creating products that look to the future and sustainability. Not that there is really a mass produced car that really does that anyway. That's what bikes are for

Original versions of the bill stated that you had to buy American but they finally got rid of that provision before the final passage.

GM yes, but you do have to applaud Ford for being by far the most forward thinking domestic dealer.
Their new lineup, including the Fiesta, will likely compete with a great deal of Asian brands. They have yet to take any bailout $ and a few years ago realized they needed to get more efficient and reorganized. If you gotta drive, support the guys that are trying, a little! |

I think the results tell us more about the staunchly "proud/pro-American" mindset of the same folks who likely purchased big gas-guzzling SUVs and large pick-ups back when they were popular and there wasn't such a stigma attached to them... back when they were status symbols. If you notice how the Ford Focus is the most popular car, I think it shows that those same folks would still rather purchase a domestic vehicle than say, a Honda or Toyota.
Not that there's anything wrong with that - especially now when the US automakers could really use any windfall they can get... I think it's just interesting from a sociological standpoint.
